Anthony Regisford, acting chief executive, addressing participants, some whom were accompanied by their parents at Monday’s opening ceremony, said two (2) sessions would be held per day, 9 a.m. – 12 noon and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. until the programme ends.

During the month, students will be provided with an overview of the Internet and the World Wide Web with emphasis on the benefits of Internet, function of email and search engines.

Regisford noted that the programme also provides students an opportunity to visit Cable & Wireless “the number one Internet provider”.

“This is a life changing experience. What you are about to do is open the door to the vast potential of the Internet,” Regisford told the participants.

Anthony Balcombe, manager, Data Network Services, stated that the Cable & Wireless Internet Summer School programme would be providing the students with helpful tools that will assist them with their academics.

He said the benefits that will be derived from the programme will help students better understand how the Internet works as well as assist them with their research projects.

Balcombe predicted that the time would come when teachers would use the Internet in the delivery of their curriculum.

The main objectives of the Internet Summer programme are to enable students to access Internet-based current awareness tools such as News, Entertainment and Education Resources.

It will also provide an opportunity for students to visit an Internet Service Provider and get a first hand look at its operations.

A press release from Cable and Wireless said the company was pleased to be able to enhance the exposure of children to the World Wide Web and to the possibilities it offers. It further stated that Cable & Wireless was mindful of the need to invest in our children so as to prepare them for the future of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Each student will be given a certificate of participation and at the end of the programme two computers will be given out to the best student from each category.
