Dominica, Britian get ready for election

Dominicans will go to the polls on May 5, the same day incidentally that Britain’s Prime Minister Tony Blair has set for elections in that country. And Prime Minister and Leader of the Dominica Labour Party, Roosevelt Skerrit has promised to support Charles Savarin in the Freedom Party Leader’s bid to win the Roseau Central seat in the 2005 general elections. {{more}}

The Dominican leader made the revelation at the launching of his party’s candidate in Roseau North recently.

In 2000, the Dominica Labour Party and the Dominica Freedom Party joined forces to form Dominica’s first coalition government.

Speaking to thousands of his supporters at Lindo Park in Goodwill, Prime Minister Skerrit said: “Those persons who are seeking to put a wedge between Freedom and Labour, tell them that when Mr. Savarin is prepared to be launched in Roseau, Skerrit will be on the platform to support Charles Savarin.

The Dominican Leader told the large gathering of Labourites that he appreciates the contribution that Charles Savarin and the Freedom party have made to Dominica and the Coalition government.

The last few weeks have been characterized by intense political activity in Dominica. The Political Parties in Dominica have been launching their candidates in the various constituencies around the country.
