This is the second international award that the bank has received for 2004. The first was the Best Emerging Market Bank (Latin America), which was presented by Global Finance Magazine earlier this year.
This most recent award from The Banker magazine goes to those banks that demonstrate how technology is helping them advance their market position and show how their banking structure and strategy will equip them for future developments in their market.
A release from First-Caribbean quoted CEO Charles Pink as saying: “To be recognised by external industry observers is very satisfying to us, particularly at a time when so much is happening so rapidly, in our relatively young bank. We are both honoured and humbled by these awards, which reward the efforts and excellence of our over 3,000 staff.”
Stephen Timewell, editor-in-chief of The Banker magazine, noted that this year has seen a staggering increase in the number of entries for these awards, with the quality of each entry being of the highest standard. “The popularity of the awards is a testimony of the integrity and transparent nature of the judging process that The Banker undertakes in accessing each and every entry. As a consequence, this brings enormous credibility to the award and its prestige across the globe,” he said.
Timewell has commended FirstCaribbean on this achievement saying, “The Banker has recognised the bank’s strong performance and the efforts made by the institution in 2004.
âConsidering the high quality and number of entries, as well as the highly competitive nature of the current banking environment, this achievement is made all the more rewarding.”
