Number one cyclists stay in place in road race

The top elite cyclist Zefal Bailey and the corresponding number one in the masters’ bracket, Peter Durrant, remained ahead of their field, when the SVG Cycling Union held a road race meet last Sunday.

Bailey clocked 1 hour 21 minutes 18.22 seconds to take the elite category, as the cyclists were asked to complete 28 miles, starting in Kingstown to Biabou and then to the Sion Hill intersection.

As it turned out, Bailey only had Samuel Lyttle to contend with, who completed the journey in 1 hour 22 minutes 31.30 seconds.

Enroy Lewis and Jerel Browne, who were registered in the elite category, did not complete the race.

Like Bailey, Durrant had a comfortable win, as the masters did a shorter course – from Kingstown to Argyle and to the Sion Hill intersection, a total of 20 miles.

Durrant’s winning time was 1 hour 11 minutes 58.14 seconds, ahead of Steve Olliivierre, who took 1 hour 18 minutes 4.43 seconds to complete the distance.

Completing the podium finishers in 1 hour 24 minutes 34.96 seconds, was Oral Baptiste.

Martin Bollers took 1 hour 53 minutes 444.89 seconds and Leroy Constantine, 2 hours 00.14 seconds, as the most senior cyclist battled the scorching Sunday afternoon heat.

Sunday’s race was the second of the 2018 cycling calendar, following a time trial on January 20.

The next event takes place February 11, with the course to be decided by the SVG Cycling Union.
