Can ‘Fireman’ retain the Ragga Soca Crown?

Fourteen Ragga Soca artistes will come up against defending champion Delroy ‘Fireman’ Hooper tonight in the Finals of the 2011 Ragga soca competition.{{more}}

The finalists include a number of veteran and experienced performers, some of whom have already tasted victory both inside and out of the Ragga Soca arena.

Past winners include Shernelle ‘Skarpyon’ Williams, who will be performing ‘She Tell Me’, and 2009 winner and last year’s road march champ Raeon ‘Maddzart’ Primus, who will perform ‘Whole Wide World’.

Former road march winners Shertz ‘Problem Child’ James and Cornelius ‘Poorsah’ Williams are also in the finals; James singing ‘Stick On’ and Williams, also a past calypso monarch, doing ‘ The Juice’.

Orande ‘Bomani’ Charles, a former Soca Monarch, will contend for the Ragga Soca title with his song ‘I Aint missing’, and current Tobago Soca Queen Lornette ‘Fya Empress’ Nedd will perform ‘Sak Passi’.

Other finalists include Daverne ‘Ellegance’ Muckett with ‘Touch D Road’; Lyndon ‘Lawyer Boy’ George with ‘PC Jumping’; Godwin ‘GAO’ Oliver performing ‘D Sheep’; Danielle ‘Daneel’ Veira performing ‘Be There’; Daria Primus with ‘Carnival Wuk Up’; Dennis Bowman singing ‘In The Middle Of Something’; Charles ‘Columbian’ Villareal with ‘Action Time’ and Johnny ‘Johnny Rebel’ Hall with ‘Dancing Queen’.

Tonight’s show will start at 9:00 and will take place at the Victoria Park.(JJ)
