16 beauties vying for the Miss Carival title 2006

A whopping 16 territories including this country may be participating in the Miss Carival 2006 Pageant slated for Friday July 7 at the Victoria Park.

Speaking with the SEARCHLIGHT, Chairperson of the Beauty Shows Committee, Cheryl Rodriguez, said so far, 12 contestants have confirmed their participation and have sent in the biographies of their delegates.{{more}}

Rodriquez believes that the overwhelming response to the show is due to former participants who spread the word about the hospitality they receive at the Miss Carival Show.

She noted, “Many of the ladies and their chaperones tell us how special they feel and how much they are treated like royalty while here. There are many other regional shows around the Caribbean but the organisational skills of the Carnival committee and hospitality of our Vincentian people seem to give the Miss Carival Pageant that prestige.”

Rodriguez admitted that caring for that many delegates is not easy, but since many of them have participated in similar shows in their homeland and across the region, the committee does not have the pressure of training them, as is the case with the local girls of the Miss SVG Pageant.

She however noted, that the only challenge was ensuring that each talent performed by the contestants is kept within the four minute time frame so that the audience doesn’t become bored.

Rodriquez also confirmed that preparations of the local representative, newly crowned Miss SVG 2006 Sheridan Lewis were going well. She said that Lewis’ costume, evening gown and swimsuit have already been chosen and that she was fine-tuning her talent and interviewing skills.

The Beauty Shows Chairperson revealed that the show will commence at 8:30pm instead of 8pm to give patrons extra time to prepare for the show which is scheduled for the Victoria Park.

Besides gifts and prizes, the Queen of the Miss Carival Beauty Pageant will receive US$4,300, the 1st runner up US$1,300 and the 2nd runner up US$700.

The 12 countries who have confirmed their participation are: Anguilla-Twyla Richardson, Antigua and Barbuda-Mekela Williams, Bahamas-Tanisha Medows, Columbia-Kinierra Flores Petty, Dominica-Nakita Bruno, Dominican Republic-Candy Familia, Guyana-René Chester, St.Kitts and Nevis-Genelle Howell, St.Lucia-Joyann Biscette, Trinidad and Tobago-Kesha Quash, Venezuela-Angie Fontaines, United States Virgin Islands-Taiesa Lashley.

The other countries that have expressed interest include Cuba, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.

The hosts of the Miss Carival Pageant will be veteran broadcasters Don Bob and Theresa Daniel.
