Rastafari: Omega is rising!

Believers of the Rastafari philosophy have the expression King Alpha and Queen Omega: ‘The beginning and the end.’ Alpha is ascribed as the first man and Omega: the first woman.

Some Rastafari women are asserting that “Omega is rising” as they reassert the dignity of Black women. {{more}}Askale Selassie, Founder and Director of the Empress Menen Foundation accompanied by Treasurer Afronsa Tseyion, and Zela Africa visited Searchlight recently to lay the groundwork for the construction of the Vincentian version of the Foundation here.

Askale Selassie pointed out that contact had been made with Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, and that ten acres of land had been set aside for construction of an International Boarding School at Mt. Wynne.

Askale sees the facility as one which will have an “Afro-centric curriculum,” and serve to provide “self-empowerment of the holistic black person.”

She expects the building to cater for 500 students and to function both day and night.

“We have keen millionaire Rastafarian artists willing to finance the project,” Askale said. She anticipates working with the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines with transferring skills from Africa.”

Basic computer literacy, Internet training, dress making, tailoring, electrical, masonry, carpentry, plumbing, and soft skills like music and drama are areas the Foundation is looking toward to share their experience.
