Independence launch rained out

Culture and Tourism Minister Rene Baptiste opened the 25th anniversary celebrations, amidst a spurt of cultural activities. However, everything came to an abrupt end with a cloudburst accompanied by lightning and thunder. Those sent persons at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Car Park scurrying for shelter last Friday night. They eventually headed for their homes. {{more}}

Before that, Independence Calypso King Kenneth Vibrating ‘Scakes’ Alleyne sent listeners into nostalgia with his rendition of the song ‘Our Nation is born,’ which propelled him to the first Independence title 1979.

Performances from the Kingstown Preparatory school, St Mary’s Roman Catholic, Stubbs Primary, and Chatoyer Youth Movement enhanced the cultural package.

Calypsonian Alston ‘Becket’ Cyrus and the band Signal, as well as Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves missed out on the presentation.
