Choosing the right floor materials

Floors to match your needs

During your planning stage, the type of materials to be used must have been discussed, whether it was for the cabinets itself, floors or countertops. Material types will have a direct effect on cost, appearances and durability, so I cannot stress how critical it is to make sure you balance the material that is to be used in the kitchen.{{more}}

In the next few weeks, we will outline some of the different types of flooring typically used in kitchens.

The kitchen floor is one of the most used areas in the home. It, therefore, has to not only stand up to the regular wear and tear, but also often spills, stains and oil. You need to make a special effort to get the right flooring type to stand up to this extra harsh treatment over the years. You do not want to be changing the kitchen floor yearly. So when choosing a floor, think of durability and low maintenance first, before looks and price.

There are many flooring options, but we are only going to focus on a few of the popular ones. Be reminded that each of these has its pros and cons. We would not seek in anyway to select a special type or few; we seek only to advise on these options. Discuss the final choice with your contractor or family members.

Here we go:

WOOD

Few things can enhance the quality of a living space the way a hardwood floor can. It adds warmth, luster, and charm to a home, whether in a bedroom, a dining room, a living room, or a kitchen. And it’s much more economical than one might imagine. Because of the outstanding insulating properties of wood, it can help keep a room warmer in the wintertime and cooler in the summer, which in turn saves the homeowner on energy bills over the long term.

Professionally installed or refinished wood flooring can dramatically increase the beauty and value of your home. The money spent on installing and maintaining a wood floor in a house is an investment that can pay for itself many times over; both in the cash value it adds and in the pleasure it gives homeowners year after year.
