Deciding where to position your outlets

Question: Should I design my kitchen around my electrical and plumbing outlets? Or should I position my electrical and plumbing outlets to suit my kitchen?{{more}}

Answer: You decide

In our experience, most clients here in St. Vincent call us in only after the walls of the kitchen have already been painted and the lights are all working and then we are given the task to design a very beautiful kitchen around the existing space. We are sometimes further told “Oh bear in mind where the outlets are, cause ain’t no way me gwine pay to move these outlets”.

See, right there is the problem, because most of the time, these are the clients who have the space and the ability to pay for a sexy kitchen (That’s what my wife calls them) but most of these outlets are literally out of place thus limiting the ability of the designer to move things around until the kitchen pops!

Remember the answer to the above question was “you decide”, but planning is the key, so don’t take it for granted or leave it up to the contractor, we suggest that you meet with the kitchen designer in the early stages to discuss the kitchen layout so that the electrical and plumbing outlets can be placed in the right places to accommodate the kitchen when it arrives.

Another reason to meet with the kitchen designer is for you to have a preview of the cost of the kitchen. Some companies give you a plan of the kitchen in 2d or 3d views so you can see the kitchen in the space before it is built. Give a copy to the plumber and one to the electrician so that you will not have problems when its time for your kitchen to be installed. Okay so now make your own decision! Bottom line- IT SAVES YOU MONEY!
