Attack on Referee costs football coach his double salary
A FOOTBALL COACH, who “humiliated” a referee by striking him on his face with a weapon after being given a straight red card for using abusive language during a match, was ordered to compensate him $2,300 in one week.
Keon Peters, 37, of Largo Heights appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Tammika Mckenzie, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 where he pleaded guilty that on February 18, 2025, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Elron Lewis, a 35-year-old Sports Administrator of Troumaca.
Peters was ordered to compensate Lewis a total of $5,000; $300 of which was to be paid forthwith, in default of which he would spend one and a half weeks in prison; $2,000 must be paid by February 3, 2026, the default penalty being nine months in prison. The remaining $2,700 is to be paid by May 17, 2026 or Peters will be incarcerated at His Majesty’s Prisons for one year.
