SVG reviewing US request to accept deportees, Opposition Leader warns not to accept them
DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER St Clair Leacock, says that St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) is reviewing a request from the United States administration to accept deportees and third country asylum seekers. On radio last Monday, January 19, 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is also Minister of National Security, said however, that SVG will adopt a joint position with that of other OECS countries on the possibility of accepting deportees from the United States who are non-nationals.
He said the OECS will make a firm decision on the matter after concluding meetings with representatives of the US State Department. Speaking specifically to the issue, the national security minister said that any person with self belief “would not want somebody to be imposing upon them, what on the surface seems to be an unreasonable solution.”
