Six students receive scholarships from GHS Alumnae
The Girls’ High School Alumnae Association of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Inc – New York Chapter, which initially intended to award scholarships to two students changed course and decided to increase their impact by awarding six students each with a US$1,000 yearly scholarship, as well as a laptop to help in their education.
Raynice Ollivierre, Kaydee Mars, Chardonnay Baptiste, Layla Naert, Ariel Ralph and K’Nia Findlay are the six students who received laptops and a scholarship on December 30, 2025 at Mayers’ Law Chambers.
President of the association Camille DeFreitas, said that the organisation consists of past students of the Girls’ High School ( GHS), who give back to the school. She told SEARCHLIGHT that their number one mission is to grant scholarships for GHS students who are in need of financial assistance.
“…we have been in existence for over four decades …45 years to be exact. A lot of what we do is really us coming together as a group and our main focus is to do fundraisers…throughout the year, and we obviously get the funds and direct them to scholarships.”
The criteria for the scholarship require a submitted application from students outlining their needs.
“We would ask them to submit…their grades so we see that they are doing well, and once their information is submitted, our committee would go over the information just to see whether or not they are eligible,”she explained.
