Reinstated teachers reflect on ‘traumatic’ COVID-19 dismissal
SOME TEACHERS, who were deemed to have abandoned their jobs over three years ago for refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine say they are pleased to return to their posts after a “painful” and “traumatic” experience, and having to pay their mortgages and other bills without a steady income.
Guidance Counselor at the St Mary’s Roman Catholic School, Luevene Liverpool-John, and French Teacher at the St Vincent Grammar School Ann-Marie Ballantyne, were among those deemed to have abandoned their jobs in November, 2021, and February 2022 over their refusal to take the vaccine.
“We knew what was coming. The [then] Prime Minister was making statements, so I got the letter in February, 2022…it was a painful experience,” Ballantyne said.
