Vincentian educator crowned Middle School Principal of the Year
Vincentian educator Dr Deborah Dennie, whose teaching career commenced at the Kingstown Methodist School has been crowned the 2026 Middle Principal of the Year by the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP).
Dennie has been principal of the Leonardtown Middle School in Maryland, in the United States for 10 years. Prior to her time as principal, she taught at a middle school before becoming a supervisor on the St Mary’s County Board of Education. She then served as an administrator at a high school and was later transferred to Leonardtown Middle School where she first served as assistant Principal.
A graduate of the St Vincent Girls’ High School, Dennie’s teaching career began in 1986 at the Kingstown Methodist School, then at the C W Prescod Primary School. Dennie told SEARCHLIGHT that she owes a lot to the people who have supported her along the way.
“If I have to sum it up in one word, [my career has been] rewarding. Even from back home in St Vincent before my mom passed, she would always tell me about some of my former students.”
