Distinguished lawyer is new G-G of SVG (+VIDEO)
Veteran lawyer, Stanley ‘Stalky’ John, who is St Vincent and the Grenadines’ seventh Governor- General, has honoured his predecessor, Dame Susan Dougan for her service, as well as his family, and the Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday, for their support, and noted that this is a new era for the country.

On January, 6 2026 John swore that he will be faithful and bear true allegiance to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG); that he will uphold and defend the Constitution and the laws of SVG; and he will conscientiously and impartially discharge his responsibilities to the people of this multi-island nation.
Taking his Oath of Office at the ceremony at Government House, the new office holder also swore that he will well and truly serve the people of SVG in the office of Governor-General.
“It is for me a distinct pleasure and honour to make these brief remarks on the occasion of my installation as Governor General of our beloved states in SVG,” John said after being sworn in.
He then acknowledged the services of his predecessor, Dame Susan Dougan, who served the nation as its sixth Governor-General for the past six years.
“I wish her a long, peaceful and relaxing – even if active – retirement. May you reflect fondly on the varied experience which mark your exciting and consequential journey during your career as a public service servant,” the former Member of Parliament stated.
