Teenage SVG sailor makes waves at the Junior PanAm Games

EIGHTEEN-YEAROLD SAILOR, Scarlett Hadley has etched her name into the sporting history of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) after delivering a record-making performance at the Junior Pan American Games in Encarnación, Paraguay.

Competing from August 15-17, 2025, Hadley raced in a series of five challenging events against some of the best young sailors from across the Americas and the Caribbean. Her best finish was 11th place, and she secured 15th overall, an impressive accomplishment given that she was the third youngest competitor in the fleet.

This marks the first time St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) was ever represented in sailing at the Junior Pan Am Games, a milestone celebrated by the SVG Sailing Association.

“Scarlett has been a trailblazer for Vincentian sailing on the international stage for over three years, and this performance is another first for the sport here,” the Association noted.

Hadley, who continues to chase her Olympic dream, was coached at the event by Andrew Lewis, a three-time Olympian from Trinidad and Tobago.

“She was a dream to work with,” Lewis said, she is yet to reach her true potential, so she has plenty of opportunities for greater success ahead.”
