It will be James versus Shallow in North Leeward

MINISTER OF TOURISM, and parliamentary representative for North Leeward, Carlos James, was nominated on Sunday, August 17, 2025, as the Unity Labour Party’s candidate to contest the upcoming general elections for the North Leeward seat. His nomination took place during the ULP’s North Leeward Constituency Candidate Selection and Constituency Conference at the Chateaubelair Methodist School.

In his acceptance speech, James, who is into his third general elections cycle, told the packed audience, “What we have done nationally under Ralph as our leader, we have never seen this before in this country or anywhere else in the region. From education, from healthcare, infrastructure development, the international airport, the new port, and everything that we have seen, the manifestation of what Labour is, is reflected in the hard work of this political party. We are doing things to benefit unity.”

The main thrust of his address though, was on “the future of North Leeward” and the importance of that particular seat, mentioning the work put in by his ULP predecessor, Jerrol Thompson, on the Cumberland Playing Field, among other deliverables.

“ We allocated 1.2 million to complete that facility, a first class facility here in the constituency where they have international games being played.”

The North Leeward parliamentary representative also noted that fertilizer assistance was in the works for farmers, and reminded of the support they received after the volcanic eruption, and farmers now having title to lands.
