Opposition MP asks for Government accountability

THE NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY (NDP) said it is in support of road construction, housing for Vincentians, and the building of the new port in Kingstown despite what some people may say.

What the party is against, according to parliamentary representative for East Kingstown, Fitzgerald “Fitz” Bramble, is what he describes as a persistent lack of accountability by the government. Bramble said it was because of this that opposition Members of Parliament were not willing to support the $98.6 million Supplementary Appropriation Bill which the government took to the House of Assembly on Thursday, August 7, 2025. No member on the opposition benches voted in support, but the Bill was passed because of the Government’s majority in parliament.

Of the total sum approved, $28.2 million is to complete the ongoing road programme; $25.6 million is for the completion of the Modern Port Project in Rose Place, Kingstown; $41.7 million is for post-Beryl Housing recovery; and $3 million is to pay for continued accommodation for persons displaced by the hurricane, who are still in guest houses.
