Gov’t to buy lands in Chester Cottage to build homes for displaced persons
Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, has spoken about the government’s intention to purchase lands at Chester Cottage to house displaced persons. Speaking on NBC radio on Wednesday morning, August, 13, 2025 the Prime Minister said “a small number” of persons were still in shelters in St Vincent and the Grenadines following destruction caused by Hurricane Beryl on July 1, 2025.
He said in his constituency of North Central Windward, there are about 16 or 17 persons still in shelters.
The government plans to purchase about 16 lots of lands from the Jones family in Chester Cottage to house those who have been displaced, and one person, who is also in a shelter, will get a house in Colonaire, he explained.
With its policy of housing replacement and support, the government has already provided replacement homes to hundreds of persons whose houses were destroyed or severely damaged during passage of the category 4 hurricane, and the Prime Minister has…
