North Central Windward picks Dr Gonsalves again
THE North Central Windward Constituency Council of the Unity Labour Party (ULP) last Saturday, August, 9, 2025, nominated Dr Ralph Gonsalves as their candidate to contest the next general elections, expected before year-end.
In his acceptance speech, Dr Gonsalves thanked a host of people he said helped to shape his character, and went on to speak about his early years.
“There are some people, young people people for instance, who have known me as Prime Minister for the last 25 years and those who knew me before and don’t really know how I came to be who I am. I didn’t drop out from the sky. I didn’t come from Mars. I was born in Colonaire, and my journey has not been an easy one,” he told party supporters on the grounds of the George Stephens Secondary School.

“…the people have twisted and turned me inside out in order to repose confidence in me.”
He said Jeremiah 1:5 resonates with, where the prophet was told that before he was formed in his mother’s womb, God had set him apart.
Gonsalves also used the platform to needle the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP).
“I told them- the opposition- all you ain’t yet understand your mission. For over 30 years, you have focused on Ralph.”
He claimed that they “have brought some of the best propagandists from all over the world- from the United States, from Britain, from the Caribbean- to tell the people of St.Vincent and the Grenadines that I’m a false prophet, and they repeat their lies over and over again, and they have failed on everything … when you are going to learn your lesson?” he questioned. He recalled a 2001 NDP meeting in South Rivers where he was being condemned as a communist who would torture people, throw them in a sewer, tie them with blocks, and take away half the animals they owned at which an elderly woman with a “big Bible” defended him.
