Mother of two dies in accident at Gorse

A Sandy Bay resident became the latest road fatality on Emancipation Day August 1, 2025,when she died at the scene of an accident at Gorse.

Dead is 39-year-old Annette Huggins, who worked in the hospitality industry.

Huggins, who is originally from the village of Owia, was the mother of two children.

Her daughter, Brianna Clarke, spoke to SEARCHLIGHT after the accident.

“I lost not only my mom, but also my best friend,” Brianna said in a telephone interview.

The 19-year-old daughter graduated from the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) in June, 2025, and her mom stood proudly at her side.

“It is hard, but I have to be strong, especially for my little brother.

Huggins’ other child is Xavi John, who is just nine years old.

Xavi attends the Pamelus Burke Government School at Byera.

“She was so proud of us, we were her world,”Brianna told SEARCHLIGHT.

The fatal accident took place along the Gorse Public Road.

The accident happened just a short distance away from the scene where Owia resident, Normanie Duncan died, when the vehicle in which he was travelling went over an embankment in February this year.
