EIGHT FAMILIES at Orange Hill, c’omprising 19 people, have received the keys to brand new homes provided by the government of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
The recipients were handed the keys to their new homes on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 during an official ceremony which was organised by the Ministry of Housing.

The families were relocated to Orange Hill due to the reconstruction of the God Save the Queen Bridge, and the realignment of the Overland road.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Housing and Deputy Prime Minister, Montgomery Daniel, said during the December, 2013 floods across the country, including in North Windward, there was devastation and widespread damage to infrastructure including bridges. He said the God Save the Queen Bridge was among the casualties.
The Minister outlined that before the start of work on the bridge and road in Overland, there was a town hall meeting where discussions were held regarding the seven homes identified for relocation.
“…whether or not the recipients will be willing to accept monies paid to them, or whether or not their preference is to have the government build their homes,” he said of the choice put to the residents.
“ Of course, I think all of the seven persons indicated that their preference will be for the government to rebuild them their homes,” Daniel said, while noting that an eighth house was included after they looked at the design that was presented at the meeting.
