Two injured as portion of Rose Place building collapses

One day before a portion of a Rose Place building collapsed, residents had warned a group of children not to play under the building.

The following day, on Thursday, July 17, 2025, while workmen were doing work on the former Magikleen building, the floor of the western side gave way, injuring two men and putting residents into a state of panic.

The building, which is two storeys high and is undergoing construction for a third floor, was recently purchased by VONZUU as confirmed in a statement by the company.

The collapse occurred sometime around 10:00 a.m, and residents rushed to the aid of the injured workmen, moving debris and other building materials to pull them out.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene shortly after and established a cordon around the street. Members of the Fire Service informed SEARCHLIGHT that a search of the building had to be done to establish if other persons were inside and were possibly injured.

Residents and employees of businesses located in the vicinity of the collapsed building openly voiced their concerns about its structural integrity saying that they were certain that a collapse was imminent.
