Shortte says CED competition win will enable him to expand
Winning the men’s empowerment project’s Business Pitch Competition will enable Ferique Shortte to expand his meat/fish processing business.
Shortte, the owner and operator of Union Food Processing, took the first-place prize of EC$15,000 in the ‘Men’s Empowerment Project Business Pitch Competition’, that was judged earlier this week.
He staved off five finalists in the competition, which was held under the ‘Technical Assistance for Men’s Employment and Entrepreneurship Development’ (TAMEED) Project being executed by the Centre for Enterprise Development (CED), with funding from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
“I feel really excited about it because that competition presented a transformative opportunity that enables my business to expand and increase local employment, and also contribute to national food security and economic growth,” Shortte told SEARCHLIGHT in an interview yesterday, July 17, 2025.
He said the prize money will allow him to be able to purchase equipment he needs to scale up and expand Union Food Processing.
