Family of Guardsman employee ‘disappointed’ with company’s decision not to help
Relatives of Wadie Simon, the Guardsman SVG Ltd. security guard charged with the fatal shooting which occurred inside the offices of KCCU last week, have expressed disappointment about the company’s decision to offer no assistance for legal representation.
Simon, who was on duty at the time, was on July, 11, 2025, charged with killing Barrouallie resident, Shernard Gloster following a reported altercation between the two inside the Kingstown Co-operative Credit Union Ltd (KCCU) on July, 9, 2025. The Brighton resident was remanded into custody on the indictable offense and is scheduled to return to court on July, 22 for a status update on the investigation, and to set a date for the preliminary inquiry.
Simon’s relatives, who have asked not to be named, told SEARCHLIGHT they believe the company had backed out of a verbal agreement to assist Simon with his legal defense.
The relatives said that immediately after the shooting, and before the initial court appearance, they were told by the accused that representatives of the company had said they would secure a lawyer to represent Simon for the trial process.
The relatives told SEARCHLIGHT they had spoken to the lawyer who confirmed he had been contacted by the company in relation to offering his services on behalf of the accused. However, they were later informed by an associate of Simon, that the lawyer would no longer be proceeding with the case.
