Hurricane Beryl Victims remembered in Southern Grenadines Ceremony
The tears flowed uncontrollably last Tuesday, July 1, 2025 as loved ones of those who lost their lives during the passage of Hurricane Beryl on July 1, 2024, were remembered during two memorial services- one on Canouan and one on Union Island.
Remembered in Canouan were Maxwell Burke, and his four-man crew who disappeared at sea on July, 1, 2024 onboard the MV Guidance 11 while on Union Island. Reports are that the boat put to sea, as would be customary in such situations, but may have lost its anchor and drifted.
On Union Island, five people who lost their lives when the hurricane touched land were also memorialized.
On Canouan, a model of the MV Guidance 11 was placed in the harbour where people placed wreaths, among them, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves; while on Union Island, a sign board with the names of the fallen five etched on it was unveiled
