Cousin rivalry sees Soy Toney placing 4th in CPEA

Soy Maval Toney and Saj Cristophe Caesar made a $10 bet on who would perform better in the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment(CPEA). Though Soy lost the $10 by placing 4th while Saj copped the first place, Soy was still able to single-handedly save the St Mary’s Roman Catholic School’s stellar reputation of being a top 10 school for another consecutive year.

Soy told SEARCHLIGHT that it is “nice” being a top performer alongside his cousin Saj, as they are always competing with each other.

“He managed to beat me this time but next time I will beat him,” Soy said.

His mother, Lekeicha Caesar-Toney, said both boys made the $10 bet where the better performer takes the $10.

“…Immediately after we found out…[Saj] was top… we called him and congratulated him and it was time for discussion of the delivery of the funds.”

Caesar-Toney saw it as good rivalry and a good competition.

“Saj is a very smart lad so we knew we were in a competition, but it was good rivalry. It’s something you should always encourage.”

Despite losing the bet, Soy feels “very good” knowing he saved his school “from having nobody in the top 10”.
