Young man steals from hand that housed him
A tire technician whose employer gave a home for the last three years, and complained that he was not paid enough, received a suspended sentence and was ordered to pay compensation, after he was found to have been stealing from the employer’s business for almost two years.
Reon Delplesche appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate, Tammika McKenzie, on June, 2,2025 where he pleaded guilty that between December 31, 2023, and May, 28, 2025 he stole 12 new vehicle tires, value unknown, the property of Caribbean Tires Plus Ltd.
The facts, which were presented in court by PC 196 Constantine, stated that Desiree Singh of Cane End is the Managing Director of Caribbean Tires Plus Ltd, located in Arnos Vale.
Singh is acquainted with Delpesche, and has been employed as a tire technician at the business. For over one year, Singh has been noticing shortages in brand new tires from the inventory.
About four months ago, she started receiving reports that Delpesche had been stealing her new tires. As a result, Singh investigated the matter and discovered that the reports were true.
Singh reported the matter to the Police at the Criminal Investigation Department. PC 105 Castello entertained her report, visited the scene and recorded a statement in writing.
As a result of the investigations, Delpesche was later charged with theft. After the facts were read, Singh told the court that Delpesche compromised security in the business.
She said that new staff was hired to take responsibility for inventory and that she is forced to be on site more often to monitor the employees, which is time consuming for her.
Singh also said that she provided housing accommodation for Delpesche free of cost for the past three years, and added that he only had to pay the utility bills.
She told the court that she is very disappointed in Delpesche because he works well and that she has already warned her employees that if they are caught stealing, she will embarrass them on social media.
“Do you feel embarrassed?” Senior Magistrate McKenzie asked him. Delpesche responded that he knows what he did was wrong.
