Biabou Waterways Clean-up ends King’s Baton Tour of SVG

Activities in honour of the King’s Baton Tour of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) ended with a river/beach clean-up in Bridgetown, Biabou last Saturday, June, 14, 2025.

And, the National Coordinator for the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN), one of the agencies fully engaged in spearheading the event, Deona Nero, would like to see more awareness programmes, to aid in greater understanding of the need to care for the coastal environment of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Nero made the plea at the conclusion of the clean-up in which drew wide participation, including from affiliate members of the SVG Olympic Committee.

“ Awareness is a key component in helping to understand their roles in taking care of the environment .We have different days that we celebrate throughout the year- we have Earth Day, we have Earth Hour. Through these commemorative days we can do sessions with children to better explain and shed awareness on elements that they are supposed to protect the Earth from,” Nero stressed.

The CYEN official also highlighted waste disposal as an area of concern in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

“Disposal of waste is a key area that is affecting our ecosystem. When we have different weather impacting us, we see the trash reaching into our water ways.”
