Police officer recovering after ‘friendly fire’ shooting

A police officer, allegedly shot by a colleague in what it is being reported as a “friendly fire” incident, is recovering nicely according to Commissioner of Police (COP) Enville Williams.

On Saturday, June, 14, 2025, several officers went to a home in Carco, Chauncey to execute a search warrant in relation to illegal firearms and ammunition. Two persons were shot during the 4:00 a.m. raid- a police officer who was part of the team of officers that went to carry out the search, and an occupant of the home.

Yesterday Monday, June, 16,2025 during a press briefing at the conference room in the Central Police Station, the COP said an investigation has been launched into the incident.

“He is doing well, he is recovering well and I just want to put it out because we do not have anything to hide…” COP Williams said, while adding that as soon as the investigation is concluded and the information is available, it will be made public.

“He is a constable, a male. I am not prepared at this point in time to say what his name is because he is still seeking medical attention and there might be some privacy issues attached to that,” he said.

“When I get an all clear from the doctors that he is recovering well, I can share the information with you.” The Police Chief added that the officer was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as a precautionary measure and was later airlifted to another island, most likely Trinidad and Tobago (T&T).
