From Studio shadows to Centre stage: Stamina Smurf steps Forward

by Ari Shaw

He’s been the magic behind many hits, but now, Stamina Smurf is stepping forward to make his own.

With more than a decade spent shaping the sounds of some popular names in Soca music, Vincentian producer and songwriter Shemuel “Stamina Smurf” Thomas is finally making a name for himself beyond the studio booth.

From crafting chart-topping riddims to penning road march anthems, Smurf has helped carve musical moments that defined Carnival seasons, but according to him, 2025 marks a new chapter.

Smurf, formerly a resident of Revierre/Prospect, who now resides in Brooklyn, New York, USA, began his musical journey in 2010 under the mentorship of D. Fresh (Megawattz Productions) and veteran producer Parry Jack.

Since then, he has developed a versatile catalogue as a producer, writer, and performer, fusing traditional Caribbean rhythms with cutting-edge sound design.

His production credits include Fireman Hooper’s “Madness”, which clinched both Soca Monarch and Road March titles in 2023, as well as Prezzi Don’s “Zone” and Skarpyon’s “Stay Home Wine”, which earned second place at the 2017 Ragga Soca Monarch show.

As a writer, he’s contributed to tracks for standout Vincentian acts like Shaunelle McKenzie (Work), and Shanny D (Doh Come Fuh Me).

“The world is ready,” he said, “and so am I.”

While his production legacy is already cemented, Smurf is now commanding the spotlight as an artist. His breakout single “Climax”, a sultry Soca track with a cinematic music video featuring his now-fiancée, has amassed over 338,000 views on YouTube. The track signalled a shift, both in sound and intention, positioning Smurf not just as a producer of hits, but as a headline act in the making.

In 2025, he’s building on that momentum. He is expanding his artistry while continuing to honour his Soca roots. He’s also featured on Parry Jack’s Reach Back Riddim with “Kiss N Tell” and Karbon Jamz’s Lost Tribe Riddim with “Sharing for Life”. His new project, “Ring Pop Riddim”, features some of the region’s biggest names: Skinny Fabulous, King Bubba, Teddyson John, Mad Skull, Nicki Pierre, and Skarpyon, among others.

Stamina Smurf’s music has been played everywhere- from Barbados to New York, Toronto, and Europe. He has performed at events including Worst Behavior, DVM, Elevate, and the Vincy Mas Launch in New York (NY) this year, helping cement his place on the global Soca scene.

“People should expect consistency, energy, and top-quality music from me this season,” he declared.

With over 50,000 streams, a growing social media following, and four major Soca crowns tied to his name, Stamina Smurf is no longer content being the silent force behind the music. As he reinvents himself for a wider audience, the producer-turned-performer is proving that sometimes, the ones in the shadows were destined for centre stage all along.
