Police caution licensed firearms holders after teen’s death
The suspected suicide of a Lowmans Windward teen by use of a licensed firearm has prompted the country’s police chief to issue a warning about the need to secure legal weapons.
The call came one day after 19-year-old Zachary Harry, a recent graduate of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC), died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The fatal shooting occurred on Sunday, May 25, 2025 around 2:50 p.m.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, May 26, Acting Commissioner of Police, Enville Williams disclosed that Harry’s death is now under active investigation by police in the South Central Division.
While not providing specifics about the stage of the investigation, Commissioner Williams confirmed that it was a licensed firearm that was used in Harry’s death.
“I want to use this opportunity to speak directly to licensed firearm holders because there is a procedure where licensed firearms are concerned when it is not on your person. I say that specifically because … Zachary Harry died by gunshot wound and the firearm in question is a licensed firearm.”
COP Williams warned that all should take seriously the regulations which govern the legal possession of licensed firearms.
“I really want …to emphasize that licensed firearm holders must adhere to the rules and regulations as it relates to the safety of your firearm when it is not on your person. The rules are there for a reason… and I will not say much more on that.”
