Boat and bodies discovered on Canouan

Speculation is rife following the discovery of a wooden boat and several bodies that washed ashore in Little Bay, Cherry Hill, on the island of Canouan.

Yesterday, Monday May 26, 2025, the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), in a press release, said investigatons are being conducted into the discovery that was made between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

“During the initial examination of the vessel, what appear to be decomposed human remains were found onboard. The identities and circumstances surrounding the discovery are yet to be determined.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation. The RSVGPF will provide further updates to the public as information becomes available,” the police release said.

A Canouan resident said that the bodies were not found on the vessel, but scattered on the beach and that it appeared to be around 10 to 15 people.

“People are saying they are Africans. The boat had no engine,” the resident said, while adding that rumours are that a fisherman saw the bodies on Sunday, May, 25 but only reported it yesterday.
