Women, the backbone of Spiritual Baptist Faith, says PM Gonsalves
PRIME MINISTER Dr Ralph Gonsalves, has praised the women of the Spiritual Baptist Faith for carrying the weight of the church over its many years of travail.
“ The Women are the backbone of the Spiritual Baptist Churches across this country”, and St Vincent and the Grenadines “will not be what it is today but for the immense contribution of the women.”

The Prime Minister was delivering an address at the Thanksgiving Service on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, as members of the Faith marked the first National Spiritual Baptist Holiday in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) during which he spoke about the “tremendous contribution of Spiritual Baptists across this country and in the region”. Punctuated with Sankeys and the periodic ringing of bells during the delivery of his address, the Prime Minister declared that Wednesday was “a day of joy”, and “a day of liberation”.

The Thanksgiving Service, held at Victoria Park, had as its theme song: “Weeping may endure for a night”, which the Prime Minister underscored adding,” we have come a long way, and there has ben a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth…but we have many more rivers to cross before we reach Mount Zion”.
