NDP candidate claims neglect and abandonment of Central Leeward

THE OPPOSITION New Democratic Party (NDP) on Friday, May 9, 2025, officially launched its Central Leeward candidate for the upcoming general election as it simultaneously opened its office for that constituency.

Speaking at Barrouallie during the launch of Conroy Huggins, NDP standard bearer for that constituency Opposition Leader, Dr Godwin Friday said “ we are on the verge of something really great and sweet in this country”.

The Central Leeward seat is currently in the hands of the ruling Unity Labour Party, having been won by newcomer, Orando Brewster in the 2020 general election.

Bemoaning the level of poverty in St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr Friday said “people catching hell, especially in Barrouallie”.

He said a poverty study done in 2018, shows that Barrouallie is poorer than any other place in the state.

“The people in this constituency have lived the reality of poverty in St Vincent and the Grenadines,” Dr Friday argued.
