GHS wins NLA ‘Pitch Perfect’ Carolling contest
Girls’ High School Form 5 Integrated, was crowned this year’s NLA Carolling champions at the 2024 edition of ‘Pitch Perfect’.
The event was staged at the Russel’s Auditorium on December 5, 2024, before a large audience of secondary school students.
This year was the second edition of Pitch Perfect, which was launched in 2022. The Girls’ High School won the first prize purse of $1000 with 417 points; capturing the second place with 411 points was the St Vincent Grammar School, who were awarded $750.
Sandy Bay Secondary School was the only rural school which took part in the competition, placing third with 395 points, and received an award ofj $500. St Joseph Convent, Kingstown in fourth place with 378 points, were rewarded with $250 for their effort.
The event comprised two segments- the first where eight forms from the GHS went up against each other to see who would win and represent the school in the second segment, the NLA Carol Clash.
In the first segment of the competition the Girls’ High School, Form 5 Integrated topped the other seven forms, being judged as having done the best original song and the best traditional song, bringing in a total of 841 points in that round.
In second place, with 818 points was Form 1 G Velox who were judged for having the best yesteryear speech; while Form 4 Science, with their 800 points placed third.
The best dressed form was adjudged to be Form 2 Connell. Each group that won in the four categories received $250.
The other forms that took part in this segment of the event were; Form 3 Horne; Form 1 G Dacon; Form 4 Integrated; and Form 5 Plain.
