Gun men rob SVGTCCU in Barrouallie

SOME BARROUALLIE RESIDENTS were left traumatised after an armed, daylight robbery took place at the Barrouallie Branch of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers’ Co-operative Credit Union(SVGTCCU), last Friday.

The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force Public Relations and Complaints Department confirmed to SEARCHLIGHT yesterday, Monday May 13, 2024, that an investigation has been launched into the robbery which took place on Friday May 10, 2024, at the SVGTCCU branch that is located in the densely populated village of Bottle and Glass, Barrouallie.

SEARCHLIGHT was informed by a resident, associated with the robbery investigation, that they were not present when the robbery occurred but was contacted at around noon and informed that two masked gunmen entered the credit union’s office.

“…[One] told one of the customers to lie on the ground, and one went towards the teller…and there was a vehicle. The vehicle that they came in was outside.”

The resident who has lived in the area for a number of years, described the situation as ‘traumatic’ saying that they never dreamt that such an occurrence would happen in the area.

“It’s a crowded area, per se, because the credit union is actually between houses, so somebody would’ve seen something,” the resident added.

“In the society we live in, I think anything is possible.”

Another resident of the area who was at the scene of the burglary was not “in the frame of mind” to speak about it.

Information about the amount of money involved has not been divulged by the credit union, though some news outlets have reported a specified amount. SEARCHLIGHT reached out to the credit union, and was informed that management personnel were involved in a meeting.
