SVG to battle for fourth position in Under-16 Regional Netball Tourney

St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) were pipped by Dominica 23-21 in a game of the Caribbean Netball Association’s Jean Pierre Under-16 Netball Tournament to determine the third place position.

This means that the junior Vincy Jewels will battle against hosts, Saint Lucia today, April 9, 2024, to determine the fourth and fifth placed spots in the tournament which is being played at Saint Lucia’s the Beausejour Indoor Facility.

Following the fourth and fifth place play offs, the finals will then be played between defending champions, Barbados who have played unbeaten so far, and Grenada.

In crucial matches on Sunday morning April 7, 2024, following the end of the preliminary matches, SVG lost to second placed Grenada 24-30. SVG led narrowly in only one quarter with scores of 10-6 in favour of Grenada, 14-13 SVG, 21-20 Grenada, and 30-24, Grenada.

In the morning’s other match, defending champions Barbados dominated Dominica in every quarter to eventually win the game 25-18.

Today, Tuesday April 9, 2024, the tournament comes to a close with the fourth and fifth place play-offs followed by the battle between Barbados and Grenada to determine the 2024 Under-16 champions. The closing ceremony follows the final matches.

Five countries are contesting the tournament.
