NDP President wants South Windward to “come back home”

In predicting victory for the New Democratic Party (NDP) in the next general elections party leader, Dr Godwin Friday also wants the constituency of South Windward to make a shift away from the governing Unity Labour Party (ULP).

“We want to have this constituency as part of the winning team for the New Democratic Party,” Friday said on the weekend.

He made the comment on Saturday night at a political meeting in Biabou, which saw the launch of the NDP’s candidate for South Windward, Andrew John.

The NDP president also spoke of his desire to see John being victorious at the polls, taking the constituency out of the hands of the ULP.

He wants to have “Andrew John sitting around the table, representing you, presenting the ideas that you have elected him so to do,” Friday told the crowd at Saturday evening’s launch.

In presenting John to supporters at the meeting at the Biabou junction, Friday said “ tonight, we have on this stage, a man who you have told me… you have told us that Andrew John is the person who will carry the banner for the New Democratic Party and who will do so, building on the work that our colleague Noel Dickson did…and bring the constituency of South Windward back home to the New Democratic Party.”

The present Parliamentary Representative for the South Windward Constituency is the ULP’s Frederick Stephenson. Friday recalled having seen Andrew John on the picket line protesting against the government’s policies.

In recommending the trade unionist to the people of South Windward, Friday said John is “somebody who will stand up on principle, somebody who will stand up and fight for what is right.”

He further endorsed John as someone “who will have the courage to stand for those persons who may not be able to do so for themselves.”

The NDP leader said he was delighted when John came forward and expressed his interest in contesting the seat for the party.

Encouraging his team to work hard in preparation for the next general elections, Friday said “ there is no square inch of this country, no village, there is no town, no island that we are not going to canvass in,” leading up to the next elections.

“If you want to represent somebody, you have to find out what they want you to represent them about, the NDP president declared.

“St Vincent and the Grenadines needs a change, we need to bring hope back to our people, especially the young people.”
