US-based Vincentian Accountant publishes books about life in SVG

There are two new books available for persons who want to read about Vincentian lifestyle and tradition.

The books, Growing Up In Vincy, and a Collection of Poems, were written by US based Vincentian, Dr Nicholette Spring.

Dr Spring who was born in the village of Mangrove, near Byera, said her book Growing Up In Vincy recounts all the tradition she experienced as a child here.

Her other book, a Collection of Poems, relates to the Vincentian lifestyle.

“I wanted to bring something positive to Facebook, because everybody has this negative thing about Facebook this and Facebook that.”

So instead of negative writings, Dr Spring began doing positive features about Vincentian lifestyle and individuals and posting them to her Facebook page.

“I started with the houses we used to live in before; everyday I would write something.”

By the end of October, 2023, Dr Spring had quite a collection of writings, which she was encouraged to publish.

She told SEARCHLIGHT this book has stories about local traditions- at birth, death, and other special occasions; it even brings speaks to memories of school days in years gone by, and of jumbie stories which the elders passed down the generations.

Her other book, ‘A Collection of Poems’, is a compilation of 26 poems about St Vincent and the Grenadines.
