One of Canada’s most wanted men in SVG?
Tongues were set wagging last week as an Internet poster claimed that a man who was wanted in Canada and had a CND$100,000 bounty on his head was believed to be somewhere in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
The man, Cody Casey, is wanted by the Vancouver Police Department. In April 2022, weeks away from facing trial on 17 drug and firearms offences, he allegedly cut off his court-mandated ankle monitor and fled the country.
A poster making the rounds on social media and bearing the markings of Canada’s ‘Be on the Look Out’ (BOLO) Programme, claimed that Casey, 36, may be in SVG.
The Vancouver Police Department has partnered with the Bolo Programme, a national group that offers large rewards to tipsters who provide information that results in the arrests of wanted fugitives.
“The Bolo Program is pleased to offer a reward of up to $100,000 for any information leading to the arrest of Mr. Casey,” said the group’s director Max Langlois, in a news release.
The no-strings-attached reward money has many times in the past caused family members, associates and friends of wanted fugitives to give them up as the only condition for this reward to be paid is that the tip leads to the arrest the person.
“There are no other conditions. Mr Casey’s eventual trial has nothing to do with this reward being paid out,” Langlois said in the interview.
This is the first time Vancouver police have teamed up with the Bolo Program, which has Casey at number three on its most-wanted list in Canada. The wanted man is alleged to have been running a drug operation in Metro Vancouver that saw the seizure of more than 20 kilograms of fentanyl, nearly 10 kilograms of methamphedamine, three firearms, a live grenade and over $300,000 in cash.
When contacted local law enforcement officials said they had not received any indication from their overseas counterparts in relation to Casey having fled to SVG.
However, locally, several Vincentians have indicated, through social media postings on Facebook and WhatsApp that they are keeping their eyes peeled for the wanted man in hopes of securing the CND$100,000 reward.
One young lady even posted Casey on her WhatsApp status asking persons if they had seen Casey.
Anyone with information can call Vancouver police at 604-717-9979 or make anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
On several occasions, persons wanted internationally for crimes ranging from murder to drug running have been caught in SVG and extradited.
