ULP Constituency Council chooses new flag bearer, Dr Grace Walters, for North Windward

Dr Grace Walters is the likely candidate to represent the Unity Labour Party (ULP) in the constituency of North Windward at the next General Elections in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

Dr Walters, well known for her role as hospital administrator at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital was last weekend nominated at the constituency level.

She was nominated by the party ‘s North Windward Constituency Council during a meeting last Saturday night, May, 20.

Even before her nomination was announced, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, had urged persons to pay attention to the name Grace, as they would hear it more often.

Gonsalves made the comments while speaking recently on NBC radio.

If Walters is successful at all the screening stages, she will replace the incumbent North Windward Member of Parliament (MP), Montgomery Daniel who has said he would not be contesting another General Elections.

At present, Daniel serves as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Works, Lands, Surveys and Physical Planning.

He has been representing the people of North Windward since the 2001 General Elections when the ULP formed the government.

During his tenure as MP for North Windward, Daniel has built many bridges and has also improved other infrastructure and housing for the people in his constituency.

After news of her candidacy was announced, many persons took to social media to offer words of congratulations to the prospective candidate.

If finally selected as the ULP’s candidate, Dr Walters will be coming up against another female in the battle for the North Windward seat.

In the last General Elections the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP), selected Shevern John, a teacher, as its candidate for the constituency.

John was defeated by Daniel in the 2020 General Elections; she, however remains as the caretaker for the constituency and the possible candidate in the next General Elections.

John also serves as a New Democratic Party senator.
