Paved road on the way for Dondo Hole residents

Residents of Dondo Hole in Park Hill are thankful that they will soon have a paved footpath, and will no longer have to depend on a “dry weather road” to get to and from their homes.

The Government has embarked on the construction of the Dondo Hole footpath, to bring relief to residents, especially as the rainy season approaches.

A resident of the area, Marleen Cain, expressed sincere gratitude to the government for the footpath now under construction.

“I am very happy and excited about it, because we never really had any road here.

“It was just a footpath to use in the dry season and even in the dry season, it was still difficult for us.”

The old road proved to be particularly challenging for the elderly in the area.

“In times past, it was real difficult, when rain come, we can’t go down and we can’t come up.”

The footpath is also used as a shortcut link road to and from Village in Park Hill.

The Dondo Hole footpath falls under the tenth programme of the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) and is being done by Minute Maid Hebtec Ltd.

Senior Project officer at the BNTF, Kendal Sampson told SEARCHLIGHT on Monday, that the Dondo Hole footpath will be 757 feet in length, four feet wide, with a two foot drain.

The much needed footpath is slated to cost $404,235.

Sampson said two other footpaths are also being constructed under this project.

They are the Pierre Hughes footpath in Barrouallie, which is 980 feet in length, and the 675 foot Diamond Estate footpath.

The project in Dondo Hole, Park Hill is expected to be completed in six months.

Additionally four roads will be constructed under the BNTF project.

These are: the Brighton Village Road; the New Chapmans Road in Georgetown; the Pepper Village Road in Chapmans; and the Stubbs Village Road.
