Headmistress House retains championship at Girls’ High School

Headmistress House retained their overall athletics championship title won in 2022, when they topped the points standings at the Girls’ High School’s 2023 Athletics Championships.

With a total of 1,135 points, Headmistress House outshone the competition to cement their top position at the February, 21 championships at the Sir Vincent Beache athletic track on Tuesday February 21, 2023.

Moffett House was second with 948 points; Staff House third with 885 points; and Grimble House fourth with 849 points.

Jaden Edwards-Barry of Headmistress House was crowned Victrix Ludorum having won the Senior girls title with 46 points. She took gold in the Seniors 400 metre dash, silver in the Senior girls 800 and 200 metre races; and bronze in the Senior 100 metres dash. She also took bronze in the 3,000 metre Open, and silver in the 1,500 metre race.

Kianna Bailey, also of Headmistress House with 43 points, was crowned the Intermediate champion, taking gold in the Intermediate 400 metres and long jump, bronze in the 200 metres, and crossed the finish line in sixth place in the 100 metre dash. She also took silver in the 3,000 metre Open.

Junior champion, Aleah Skerritt of Moffett House with 30 points, won gold in the Junior 100 and 200 metres races and bronze in the 400 metre race, along with bronze in the long jump.

This year was the tenth time that Headmistress House has won the Girls’ High School’s overall athletics championship title but still have some distance to go to match Staff House which has won the title a record 15 times. Grimble House and Moffett House respectively have each won the title on nine occasions.
