Six new babes usher in 2023 (+Video)
Six babies – three boys and three girls, were born at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) on New Year’s Day.
When SEARCHLIGHT spoke with the mothers of the first three to be born, and presented gifts compliments Huggies, the young women had nothing but praise for the medical professionals who assisted them.
Sunlilicia Nanton of Sandy Bay welcomed her first child, a baby boy around 1:57 a.m.
“I feel kinda good,” she said while adding that the medical staff took good care of her and her son who she has named Danroy. She said also that she was thankful for the gifts.
Roseau resident, Shana Seales gave birth to the second baby born on New Year’s Day.
The baby girl, who hasn’t been named as yet weighed seven pounds, one ounce and came into the world at 2:55 a.m.
Seales said this is not her first child and she feels good about the birth and appreciates the gifts from Huggies.
“The care was okay, no problem at all,” she said of the attention she received at the MCMH. She said though that it was a painful birth and preferred not to speak about it.
“… but I am happy now, thank God.”
Latifah Wales had the third baby born on January 1, a boy named Lamanie Belgreaves around 3:25 a.m.
She said the baby’s name is a combination of her name and the dad’s.
“His father came up with the idea because my name is Latifah and his name is Kemanie and I guess he just join it and you know guys already, you all does like to put things right, so I just go with it,” she said.
She added that Lamanie weighed a little over seven pounds at birth.
“I must say it wasn’t a good journey even if it’s my second child, but I coped and I thank the nurses for coping with me although it wasn’t really an easy one, but I have to embrace the blessing,” Latifah said.
“I just want to say thank you guys for coming and giving us these gifts. I am sure myself and my fellow companions do appreciate it; I feel appreciated,” she added.
The other New Year babies were born to Shakel Yearwood of Lowmans Leeward – a baby boy born at 4:30 p.m; Kiara Wyllie of Lowmans Leeward – a baby girl born at 9.35 p.m; and Natisha Hazell of Bequia – a baby girl born at 11:58 p.m.
