Thieves, vandals try to spoil Christmas in Georgetown
The popular father figure, Santa Claus went missing from his home in Georgetown this Christmas.
After many years of not lighting up the town, a committee was formed to revive the traditional Christmas lighting up in Georgetown but their efforts were undermined by a person or persons who stole a few of the ‘jolly ole Santas’ and damaged some lights.
The lights were strung around the old Bishops College premises along Commercial Road in Georgetown, and they were a beauty to behold.
In addition to the lights, there were added decorations, including miniature versions of Santa Claus.
However, over the Christmas season, an individual, or individuals, stole some of the decorations and also damaged some of the lights.
Speaking about the incident on Wednesday, Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves said such happenings could give the Georgetown community “a bad name.”
The Prime Minister who is the Member of Parliament for the area, however noted that “the people in Georgetown are very community spirited.”
He told listeners to NBC radio on Wednesday, that apart from damaging the lights, the person/s went out of their way and also took about four or five “small Santas.”
The Old Bishops College building is just a stone’s throw from the Georgetown Police Station, however, the damaged lights and missing Santas remain an unsolved mystery in Georgetown.
