Person of interest in police investigations denied bail

Police are said to be conducting investigations into a capital offence, and a 24-year-old is of interest to them.

Omarie Sargeant, AKA ‘Vincy’ has been charged with the unlawful possession of one Smith and Wesson 45 firearm serial number HSD3385, and nine rounds of unlicensed .45 ammunition.

The defendant who has been living in Barbados but returned to St Vincent and the Grenadines earlier this year, is allegedly to have committed these offences on October 3, in New Montrose.

Sargeant entered ‘not guilty’ pleas to both offences, and therefore the issue of bail arose.

The prosecution, Sergeant 172 Atnel Ash objected to bail being granted for the defendant. He said that the police are currently conducting investigations into a capital offence (a crime punishable by the death penalty), and that certain information was received. He said the defendant is of interest to them, and submitted that if Sargeant was allowed bail he could hamper the investigations.

Further, an exhibit was apparently recovered from the 24-year-old and the police are also looking into this.

Ash asked for time for the law enforcement to carry out their investigations.

Chief Magistrate, Rechanne Browne indicated that the offence is a serious one, and information has been received, but the police will not have “forever” to carry out their investigations.

“…Get your house in order soonest,” she told them, before remanding Sargeant in jail for a week.

Bail will be reviewed on October 12.
