Mechanic threatens to put undertaker in casket ‘ for life’

A man who told an undertaker that he would put her in a casket “for life” was charged for threats and has been bonded.

Frenches resident, Ozan James committed the offence on Thursday, March 24, and was taken to the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court (KMC) yesterday, March 28.

The 38-year-old mechanic knows the individual to whom he issued the threat, Jennifer Walters, well, but they are not friends.

According to police investigations James is in the habit of “harassing” the undertaker. On this occasion, it was 10:40a.m when James went to the Everready funeral home where Walters works, and apparently began to curse at her. He told her “Jen yo nah go live to see the age yo want to see, I go put yo in a casket for life.”

He was subsequently arrested and charged that, in circumstances likely to cause a breach of the peace, he made use of threatening language to Walters.

James had no prior criminal record before the court.

The defendant told Senior Magistrate, Rickie Burnett that he has been doing mechanical and electrical work since he was 15 years old but he does not have a lot of funds saved as he provides for his family.

It came out during the proceedings that the defendant may have been intoxicated.

The magistrate advised him, “Hear what. If you want to drink rum that’s your choice but when you drink your rum you have to know how to control yourself.”

James apologised.

The defendant was bonded in the sum of $1000 for one year. If he finds himself on the wrong side of the law within a year he must find $1000 forthwith or spend two months in prison.

“You understand? Go out and behave yourself,” the magistrate said.
