SVG records over 100 positive Covid-19 cases in three days
Over 100 positive COVID-19 cases were confirmed in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in a three-day period this week.
The 62 latest cases, confirmed on Tuesday, January 19, were all nationals detected during contact tracing, testing at flu clinics and targeted screening.
On Monday, January 18, 46 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed, 44 of which were nationals with no history of recent travel. The release issued from the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) said the other two cases were non-nationals who travelled from Germany and Brazil respectively.
Both adults arrived in SVG with negative PCR results, but later tested positive.
On Sunday, 16 cases were confirmed, all of which were nationals with no recent travel history. Of that figure, five were detected during contact tracing, testing of persons with flu like symptoms and general screening.
The remaining 11 cases were detected during exit screening.
As at January 20, SVG had recorded a total of 602 COVID-19 cases, 119 of which have recovered.
There are currently 481 active cases, 464 of which are local cases with the majority being linked to various cluster types including work sites, churches and private parties.
Two COVID-19 deaths, a 49-year-old woman and 80-year-old man, have been recorded.
Two public holidays have been declared by Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves; tomorrow, January 22 and Monday January 25. These days have been dedicated to public health and slowing the spread of the virus locally.
Persons are asked to remain at home for the duration of the long holiday weekend and avoid all mass gatherings, whether indoor or outdoor.
Citizens are urged to adhere to all COVID-19 protocols and to actively play a part in helping to curb the spread of the virus.
